“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.” Psalm 92:13 ESV
Think
I love that this verse doesn’t describe who flourishes by what they’ve accomplished. It describes them by where they’re planted.
It doesn’t say those who are talented, successful, or have everything figured out will flourish. It simply says those who are planted.
The most beautiful gardens don’t happen by accident. They are intentionally planted, carefully tended, and faithfully cared for. A gardener knows exactly where each plant belongs and what it needs to grow. In the same way, God has intentionally planted you. Your season is not accidental, and neither is your purpose. Even when you can’t see growth, the Gardener is still at work beneath the surface.
Maybe you’re in a season where you feel buried instead of planted. Life feels quiet, uncertain, or even painful. But a seed has to be covered before it can grow. The Gardener never wastes a single season. Every moment He is preparing, pruning, watering, and strengthening what He has planted. Even the pruning, the cutting back that feels uncomfortable or confusing, is part of His care. What feels hidden today may be the very place where God is growing something that will flourish tomorrow. So often we think we’d thrive if only something around us changed. A different job. A different season. Fewer challenges. But flourishing isn’t found in better circumstances. It’s found in trusting the One who planted us.
We live in a world that constantly tells us the answer is somewhere else. A better opportunity. A different community. A fresh start. While God certainly leads us into new seasons, we can miss what He’s doing because we’re so focused on where we wish we were that we neglect what He’s cultivating right where we are.
When our roots are deep in God’s presence and His house, we can flourish even when life feels uncertain because our confidence isn’t in where we are. It’s in Who we belong to.
Act
Have you been asking God to change your circumstances when He’s inviting you to deepen your roots?
Spend a few minutes with God today, thanking Him for the season you’re in instead of asking Him to change it. Ask Him to show you one way He’s growing you beneath the surface and one step you can take today to stay deeply rooted in Him.
Pray
Lord, help me to deepen my roots in You and trust that You have me exactly where I need to be. Give me the faith to believe that even when I can’t see growth, You are still at work beneath the surface. Help me to stop striving for better circumstances and instead trust You, who knows exactly what I need. Thank you for your faithfulness and your perfect timing. Help me to flourish right where you've planted me.
