He Bends Down to Listen

“I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” Psalm 116: 1-2 NLT

THINK

When I read these verses, I picture a loving parent kneeling down to hear a child. A child doesn’t have to shout or use fancy words. The parent simply bends down, looks them in the eyes, and listens.

What a beautiful picture God give us.

The Creator of the universe - the One who holds everything together - bends down to listen when we pray. He isn’t distracted or rushing us. He gives us us His full attention.

That amazes me.

Sometimes, I catch myself treating prayer like a last resort or thinking my concerns are too small to bring to God. But this verse reminds us that if He is willing to bend down and listen, then nothing we bring to Him is too small. He wants to hear it all.

ACT

Today, remember that you don’t have to carry the weight of the day alone. Before your feet hit the floor, before the kids wake up, before you head to work, or while you’re folding laundry, pause and talk to God. He is already leaning in, ready to listen.

Don’t save your prayers for the big moments. Talk to Him about the meeting you’re nervous about, the child you’re worried about, the relationship that feels strained or the decision you’re trying to make. He cares about every part of your life.

Then, be present with the people around you. Put your phone down. Make eye contact with your child. Really listen to your spouse. Check in on a friend who seems weighed down. Just as God bends down to hear us, we have the opportunity to make others feel seen, heard and loved.
