He Calls You Daughter

“He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.’” Mark 5:34 NIV

THINK

For years, the woman in this scripture had been defined by her condition. She was convinced she would always be “the woman with the issue of blood.” Then she encountered Jesus. She came before him, faithful for a miracle. But, she didn’t just receive the gift she expected. Jesus called her forward, and called her “Daughter.” Jesus didn’t define her by the thing she had battled for twelve years; he defined her by her relationship and faith in Him. How often do we do the opposite?

We answer to names like anxious, too much, not enough, bossy, broken, grieving, or overwhelmed. We allow our failures and struggles to become the loudest voice shaping our identity. But this verse reminds us of something greater. When we belong to Christ, we are daughters of the King. We are loved, chosen, whole, forgiven, supported, seen, heard and valued. We are made new and redeemed. While our circumstances and our feelings are real, they are not our identity.

Thriving begins when we stop agreeing with the labels the world, the enemy, or even we have spoken over our own lives, and start believing what God says about us instead. The woman walked away healed, but she also walked away knowing who she was. So can we.

ACT

Ask yourself these questions today: What label have I been allowing to define me? What lies have been spoken over me by other people?

Open God's Word and replace that label with a truth about who God says you are. Speak that truth over yourself throughout the day. When the old label tries to return, answer it with God's Word instead. And if nothing else, remind yourself you are a daughter of the King and you are loved as such. Would the God of peace, who loves you, speak those words over you?

The more we fill our hearts with His truth, the more confidently we walk in the abundant life He has already invited us to live.
