Honor Him in the Ordinary

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly... And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:16–17 ESV

I love that Paul doesn't separate the sacred from the ordinary. Instead, he reminds us that whatever we do can bring glory to God.

So much of life happens in the unseen moments—preparing meals, folding laundry, showing up faithfully at work, caring for children or aging parents, checking on a friend, serving at church, praying for loved ones, or waiting on God in a difficult season. These ordinary moments may go unnoticed by others, but they never go unnoticed by God. They are opportunities to glorify Him.

The world tends to only celebrate accomplishments, recognition, and milestones. While those things aren't wrong, they can become our focus and only way in which we believe that God can be glorified. But God sees what no one else does. He isn't only glorified through the big moments of our lives, He is honored through every act, big or small, of faithfulness that flows from a heart rooted in His Word.

Paul begins by saying, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." To dwell means "to live, reside, to stay." When His Word dwells within us, truly lives and stays, even the most ordinary tasks become acts of worship. We can serve with joy instead of resentment, encourage instead of criticize, and remain faithful even when no one is watching because our purpose isn't found in being noticed—it's found in honoring Christ.

Whether you're raising a family, building a career, caring for others, or waiting for what's next, none of it is wasted when it's surrendered to God. Every unseen act of obedience matters to Him. YOU matter to Him! Thriving isn't about doing extraordinary things for Him. It's about allowing His Word to transform your ordinary moments until your whole life reflects His glory!

ACT

What ordinary or unseen responsibility have you been tempted to overlook or resent? Today, invite God's Word to shape your perspective. Before you begin a routine task, pause and remind yourself, "I'm doing this for the glory of God." Ask Him to help you see that even the smallest acts of faithfulness are meaningful when they're done in His name.
