Make Him Your Dwelling Place

When trouble comes, we often look for a safe place to find comfort, security, and relief. Sometimes we turn to people, distractions, entertainment, food, work, or anything that promises to ease the pain. Instead of running to other people or other things, we need to run to the one who is unshakable. He is our safe place and he offers us rest.

But to truly find the rest in Him, we first need to learn how to dwell in Him. To dwell means more than simply visiting God when life falls apart. It means making Him your home. It is choosing to live in His presence every day, not just during seasons of difficulty. The dwelling place is where we cultivate an ongoing relationship with Him. It is where we invite Him into every area of our lives: the joyful moments, the painful ones, the ordinary routines, and even the seemingly insignificant routines.

Dwelling happens as we spend time in His Word, talk with Him throughout the day, listen for His voice, worship Him, and learn to recognize His guidance. Over time, our relationship with Him becomes deeper and more intimate. We begin to know His heart, trust His character, and depend on His strength instead of our own.

The beautiful thing about dwelling is that it transforms us from the inside out. As we remain in His presence, we become more stable. Our circumstances no longer define us and we are not tossed back and forth by every disappointment, fear, or unexpected trial because our lives are anchored in Someone who never changes.

God becomes exactly what Psalm 91 declares Him to be: our refuge, our fortress, and our safe place. A refuge is where we run for protection, but a fortress is where we stand securely even while the battle continues. His presence doesn't always stop the storm, but it gives us peace in the middle of it.

ACT

Today, ask yourself: Where do I run first when trouble comes? There is no safer place to live than under the shadow of the Almighty. Make His presence your dwelling place instead of grasping for comfort every time life becomes difficult. You already know where your security is found.
