Don’t Worry About Tomorrow

Raquel Baugh

READ

“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34 NIV

THINK

We all have a natural tendency to worry, especially when we are going through difficult seasons. But God never intended for us to live consumed by worry. God, our Creator, designed us and knows that when we constantly worry about the future, we can make our problems feel much bigger than they actually are. Jesus tells us, “Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Worry not only magnifies our problems, it also affects our bodies and our emotions. When we continually imagine worst-case scenarios, our brains respond as though the danger is happening right now, and we cannot always discern if a situation is real or imagined. Over time, that constant state of fight or flight can take a toll. But worry does something else that concerns me even more: it can affect our faith. Faith is what we need to trust God, face our circumstances, and believe that He can move the mountains.

Long before science could explain how worry affects our minds and bodies, God gave us Himself as the answer. Jesus didn't simply tell us not to worry. He showed us where to put our trust.

ACT

Trust Him with tomorrow. Living in obedience means focusing on today and faithfully handling what God has placed in front of us. God gives us the grace we need for today's challenges, not tomorrow's. I have been intentionally catching my thoughts whenever I begin worrying about the future. I'm not perfect at it, but I am making progress. It takes practice, but it is possible.

When your thoughts start drifting toward tomorrow's worries, remind yourself: “I will take care of today's responsibilities with God's help, and I surrender tomorrow to Him. I trust that He is good, and I trust that He will take care of me.” You don't have to solve tomorrow today or carry tomorrow's problems with today's strength. God will give you the grace you need when tomorrow comes. The more we practice surrendering tomorrow to Him, the more we experience His peace and freedom.

PRAY

Jesus, help me stop worrying about tomorrow and trust You with what I cannot control. Give me the strength and wisdom I need to take care of today. Help me surrender my future to You and rest in Your faithfulness and goodness. Amen.
